About BulkBook
We're on a mission to make bulk transportation simple, efficient, and reliable for everyone involved.
Our Story
BulkBook Logistics was built to modernize bulk freight without losing the human side of the business. Founded by a family with three generations of experience in agriculture and bulk transportation, we combine real-world operational knowledge with modern software and automation.
We built BulkBook to solve the problems we've lived ourselves: inefficient load matching, slow paperwork, fragmented communication, and lack of transparency. Our platform is purpose-built for bulk logistics. It streamlines communication between shippers and carriers, provides real-time visibility, and removes friction from everyday operations.
The drivers and carriers who keep essential goods moving are central to what we do. Over decades in the bulk freight industry, our family has built long-standing relationships with reliable trucking companies, from owner-operators and small family-run fleets to carriers that have grown into large, multi-state operations. These partnerships were built on trust, fairness, and showing up when it matters.
We also understand the critical role bulk transportation plays in agriculture - moving crops, fertilizer, feed, and other commodities that keep farms, food systems, and rural economies running. Truckers are the backbone of that system, and they deserve better tools, clearer communication, and faster, more reliable workflows.
We're both a technology company and a relationship business. We believe better tools create better partnerships, and better partnerships move freight more reliably. Rooted in experience and powered by technology, BulkBook represents the next generation of bulk logistics.
Founder's Story
John "Frank" August
Founder
John F. August, known as Frank, was born on April 4, 1956, in Carman, Manitoba. He was raised on his family's farm, where his parents and grandparents instilled a deep respect for hard work. From an early age, Frank and his brothers learned that moving crops from field to market was just as important as growing them, driving semi trucks to deliver the family's farmed products to the local elevator. He later went on to haul bulk commodities across Canada and the northern United States, deepening his understanding of long-haul operations and bulk freight logistics. In 1983, his career shifted into operations and dispatch at L.E. Matchett Trucking Co. Ltd. In 1994, he relocated to the southeastern United States to establish the Southeast Division of Commodity Services Inc, which he grew and led for just under three decades.
